A Day in Rüdesheim: Federweisser, Senior Squad & a Wine Cabinet on Wheels?

So, I recently went on this adorable day trip to Rüdesheim with some of my beloved senior colleagues and ex-colleagues. And let me just say—it’s not every day you find yourself surrounded by like-minded people in a work environment, especially ones who are so chilled out and have the same “let’s not take life too seriously” vibe. It’s honestly one of those rare, magical things that reminds me how lucky I am to have such a group.

Our day in Rüdesheim started with the usual RB ride from Frankfurt—a little too crowded, a little too warm, but nothing we couldn’t handle. Once we arrived, we dove straight into what the region does best: wine. Specifically, Federweisser.

Now, if you haven’t had Federweisser, it’s like catching wine mid-transformation—sweet, fizzy, and very seasonal. It’s more of a “tasting” than a full-on wine session, but it’s special because it’s only around for a short time during the grape harvest. Not to mention, it's a perfect excuse to have wine before noon. While I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed, I’m definitely planning a whole blog post to give it the spotlight it deserves.

After our Federweisser tasting, we hopped onto the Seilbahn—a cute little two-seater cable car that floats over the vineyards. It was the perfect reset: cool breezes, endless greenery, and none of us holding onto the sides for dear life (which felt like a win). It’s one of those calm moments where you just breathe it all in.

Then came the quirky part of the day. As we strolled back down the Weinberg, a truck casually rolled by with...a literal wine cabinet strapped to it. Yes, a full-on wine storage, being transported down the path like that’s just what happens around here. It caught us off guard but also felt like the most Rüdesheim thing ever.

By now, we’d worked up an appetite, so we headed to the Rüdesheimer Schloss for a meal that hit the spot. But the day wasn’t over yet. After dessert, we wandered through the town one last time, grabbing some wine gifts for the friends and family my buddies were thinking of. It felt like the perfect conclusion—wine, food, laughter, and a little shopping to cap it all off.

All in all, it was a day of surprises, scenic rides, and sharing the moments with a group of genuinely great people.
